Channel Allocation and Menu 3

In Cart mode, channel allocation is on a clip by clip basis and the allocation is stored in the single Cart playlist.  This channel information appears on the display between the clip number and the title.  Channels may be allocated

  • automatically by the Automation System

  • automatically as the clips are entered into the playlist

  • or manually within an existing playlist.

Manual allocation is by MENU 3 after the cursor has been positioned on the clip whose channel needs allocating.  Where multiple clips require channel allocation, position the cursor over the first clip and the panel will automatically move the cursor down the playlist for you as each change is implemented.
Operate MENU 3 or press F5 on the keyboard to open the channel allocation dialogue.

The current channel is indicated within the edit markers.  On the number pad, enter 1 for channel A, 2 for channel B, 3 for channel C or 4 for channel D, then press ENTER.  Alternatively, letters A, B, C and D can be entered on the keyboard.  After the ENTER key is pressed, the channel for that clip will change and the cursor will move down the list and the dialogue will remain on display.  This allows a number of clips to be rapidly altered with the minimum of keystrokes.  The dialogue will close automatically at the end of the playlist.  The dialogue can also be closed by pressing the  MENU key.

Play

The PLAY key works independently of the selected channel.  The PLAY key plays the first cued item in the list, regardless of the channel that is allocated.  The PLAY key will disregard any item that is not cued up or is otherwise not ready, and play the first item that it cued.  To play the list in sequence, simply press the PLAY key until all items have been played.  Clips can be overlapped by pressing PLAY a second time while the first clip is still playing.
To play channels in a random order, use the relevant dedicated play key on the Directors Panel.

Postroll

InterCart provides a five second postroll for each clip to provide moving pictures and sound after the expected out point of the clip.  This is achieved by reporting that the clip is five seconds shorter in duration than it actually is.  This system relies on clips being created with five seconds of spare material at the end.  A clip should be 35 seconds long in order to cover a 30 second story.
In this example, InterCart will find the 35 second clip and report that it is 30 seconds long.  When it is played, InterCart will count down from 30 seconds to 0 seconds and then enter the postroll mode where the count will increase from 0 seconds to 5 seconds while the spare material is played.  During the postroll the program director can make a transition away from the InterCart and this will release the on air tally.
When the postroll period expires, InterCart will check the on air tally status.  If the tally is still active, InterCart will maintain the freeze frame of the last frame of the clip until the tally is not active.  If the tally is not active, InterCart will eject the clip and cue up the next clip for that channel automatically.
