GETTING STARTED

When all cables are connected and Clipbox is operating normally, apply mains power to INTERLINEAR's IEC inlet and activate Interlinear with the power switch on the rear panel.
When power is first applied, INTERLINEAR performs a self test which takes approximately five seconds.  The lamps and all portions of the display are lit.  During this period keys may be pressed and Interlinear will make an audible 'beep' to confirm that the keystroke has been received.
When the self test has completed, look for status information at the top right of the display.  If all is well and initialising with Clipbox was successful, both Interlinear and Clipbox software version numbers should be displayed.  If not, there will be an error message, and INTERLINEAR will not be able to control Clipbox until this has been corrected.

Possible Error Message:  NOT CONNECTED TO SERVER

This message means that communications between INTERLINEAR and Clipbox are not established.  The most common reasons for this are:-

  • the cable to Clipbox is not correctly connected - check plugs and sockets

  • the cable in use is a "cross-over" cable (as used on IBIS equipment)

  • Clipbox communications baudrate is not set to 9600 baud

Possible Error Message:  PORT NOT ALLOCATED

At power on, INTERLINEAR attempts to use the port that was used in the previous session.  If this is not successful because the previous port is in use by another device, or because this is the first time that Interlinear has been used, the PORT NOT ALLOCATED message will be displayed.  INTERLINEAR's Port Select Menu will also appear on the bottom line of the display, accompanied by a list of ports that are currently available for use.
When the Port Select menu is on the display, use the number pad to enter the number of the video port which you wish INTERLINEAR to control.  Press CLEAR to remove input errors.  Press ENTER when the required port number is displayed.  The PORT NOT ALLOCATED message will be replaced by the Clipbox version number when control is established.

CHANGING PORTS

To change an already allocated port, press MENU and 1 to access the Port Selection Menu.  To change port, enter the new port number and then press ENTER.  To release the port, press CLEAR and then ENTER.  For further information, see "Using Clipbox Ports".
If the
InterCart Upgrade is installed, the MENU 1 dialogue is extended to accommodate the selection of all four ports from one menu.  The operation of the menu remains the same but with the added use of the A/B switch to allow channel selection within the menu.  See the InterCart section of this manual for more information.

VGA DISPLAY

The Interlinear Terminal port provides an RS232 data output for connection to the COM 1 serial port of a Personal Computer.  Flash provides a software program on disk to run on the PC which will display twenty items from the playlist and allow the PC keyboard to be used for data entry into Interlinear.  The connecting cable used for upgrading Interlinear (described on page 34) can be used for this purpose also.  The PC must be capable of running a DOS program with a minimum of 386 processor and a standard COM 1 serial port at address 03F8 and using IRQ 4.  The program will also run under Windows 3.x, 95, 98 and NT, but not under Windows 2000 (yet).
Before starting the program, make sure that all the files are resident in the current directory on the computers hard drive.
