USING CLIPBOX TO PROVIDE VIDEO WHILE DUBBING

When the Setup procedure described previously is complete, Interlinear and Clipbox are ready to provide video during all dubbing procedures controlled by the audio workstation.
Refer to the audio workstation operating procedures for controlling Video Tape Recorders from the audio workstation.  The combination of Interlinear and Clipbox will behave as a Video Tape Recorder of type BVW75.  The combination will even work in "scrub" mode.

ADDITIONAL SETUP TO LAYBACK THE DUBBED AUDIO ONTO CLIPBOX

This section describes how to record the finished dub onto Clipbox from the audio workstation.
NOTE:  Do not alter the setup for playback as described earlier.  The playback channel is required to work normally while the recording is made.

  1. Select a Clipbox port for RECORDING.  So that you can see the video while the dubbed audio is being laid back, a separate recording port is required.  Press the MENU key and then the 2 key.  Interlinear displays the Slave Port Select Menu with the numbers of the Clipbox ports that are currently free to use.  The example below shows the Menu 2 display when Interlinear does not have control of a recording port and Clipbox port 14 is free.

SLAVE PORT A >  <  14

  1. Enter the number of the desired recording port (14 in this example) and press the ENTER key.  Menu 2 will disappear from the display when Interlinear gains control of the specified port.  If there is a problem, Menu 2 will remain on the display after the enter key has been pressed.  Please try again with another port.

  • If the desired port number is displayed in the brackets already, press ENTER.

  • If the desired port number is not displayed then it is not free because it is in use by another user.  Ports that are not free may be selected by force, but this is not recommended because this will disrupt the other user.

  • Sometimes a port is not freed when the other user finishes his session.  In this case it is permissible to select his port by force.  Enter the number of the port that is not free, then press the + key before the ENTER key.  Interlinear will take control of the other users port.

  1. At this point, ensure that the combined audio and video output (SDI) from the dubbing suite is routed to the Clipbox recording port.  Clipbox will record a copy of the original video with the dubbed audio as a new clip within Clipbox.

  1. Now set the recording parameters.  Recording parameters must be set before recording starts.  When recording is in progress, the parameters cannot be altered.  On the Interlinear panel, press the MENU key followed by the 8 key.  Interlinear displays the current recording parameters for Clipbox as shown below.  The example below shows the default settings.

  V  A1  A2  A3  A4    TIME  COMP  LOOP  REC DURATION
ON  ON  ON  ----  ----    PORT    ON    ----    00:01:00:00

  1. Adjust the parameters on the Interlinear panel using the number keys.

  • Set the required AUDIO channels using the 1, 2, 3 and 4 keys to toggle the audio channels on and off.  The channels are off when the dotted lines are shown.

  • Set the COMPRESSION using the 8 key to toggle compression mode on and off.

  • Set the LOOP record mode to off by pressing the 9 key until the display shows dotted lines.

  • The TIMECODE parameter is set automatically to the same timecode as the original clip.

  • The RECORDING DURATION will be set automatically when layback begins.
