USING INTERLINEAR TO LAYBACK THE DUBBED AUDIO ONTO CLIPBOX

First carry out the Setup and Additional Setup procedures described previously.  Now Interlinear and Clipbox will be ready to copy the original video and dubbed audio to Clipbox from the audio workstation.
Note that the ProTools audio workstation does not initiate the Tape Recording mode, so this must be done manually.  In this case, the layback is initiated from the Interlinear panel.

  1. Position the playback video at the point where dubbing is required to start.  This may be at the beginning of the clip, or at any point within the clip.

HINT:  To memorise a desired starting point, first find the desired point and press the MARK IN key.  To return to the desired point at a later time, press the CUE key.  If there is no memorised starting point when the CUE key is pressed, Interlinear returns to the beginning of the clip.

  1. On the Interlinear panel, press the EDIT key to start the layback.  The EDIT key will light and the following actions will be performed automatically.

  • Interlinear will preroll the playback port to five seconds before the required start point.

  • Interlinear will start the playback from the preroll point.  The PLAY key will light and the audio workstation will synchronise to the playback video timecode.

  • Interlinear will initialise the recording port during the preroll period.  The RECORD key will flash while the initialising is being carried out.  There must be enough free space in Clipbox to record a copy of the video and audio for the duration of the clip.

  • Clipbox will check that satisfactory video is being received at the recording port.  Interlinear will display the message "WAITING FOR VIDEO" while this check is carried out.

  • Clipbox will check that satisfactory audio is being received at the recording port.  The audio must be locked to the video otherwise Interlinear will not allow recording to start.  Interlinear will display the message "WAITING FOR AUDIO" while this check is carried out.

  • Clipbox will start recording at the end of the preroll period.  The RECORD key will light fully when Clipbox starts recording.  If the RECORD key continues to flash for longer than the preroll period then the recording has failed.  Press the STOP key and investigate the cause.

  • Interlinear will display the amount recorded so far instead of the playback time remaining.

  • Interlinear will generate a title for the recording.  The title will be similar to the playback title but will have the word "DUB" added to it to distinguish the dub from the original clip.

  • Where clip numbering is in use, Interlinear will give the new recording a unique number.

  1. The layback process will stop automatically at the end of the playback clip.  Also, the layback may be halted at any time by pressing the STOP key on Interlinear or on the Machine Control Interface of the audio workstation.

  1. When the layback process stops, Interlinear automatically loads the dubbed clip ready for playback so that the finished work can be reviewed.  Interlinear will do this even if the layback is halted prematurely.  The example below shows a completed dub clip ready for playback.

  1. To return to the original playback clip in order to complete any unfinished dubbing, press the LAST key on the Interlinear panel.  The example below shows what happens when the layback is halted after 12 minutes and the LAST key has been pressed to retrieve the original clip in order to continue or redo the layback.
