  • When the clip number or media ID is confirmed correctly, press the ENTER key.  Interlinear will load the clip for playback and the first frame of video will be output from the Clipbox playback port.  After the ENTER key is pressed, the whole title, the timecode and the duration of the clip (30 minutes in the example below) are displayed on the Interlinear panel.

  • If you enter a clip number or Media ID or title that does not exist, Interlinear will display dotted lines as shown below.  Do not press the ENTER key if this occurs.  Instead, ensure you have the correct data and that the clip has been recorded.

  1. Press the PLAY key and check the following:

  • Can you see the playback video?      No? Check video routing.

  • Can you hear the playback audio?      No? Check audio routing.

  • Is the playback timecode reaching the audio workstation? No? Check timecode routing.

Press the STOP and CUE keys to return the video to the start of the clip.

  1. Switch on the protocol translator so that the audio workstation can control Clipbox through Interlinear.  Examine the TRANSLATOR key on the Interlinear panel.

  • If the key is not lit, press the TRANSLATOR key so that the key is lit.

  • If the key is lit, the protocol translator is switched on already.  This is the default condition.

  1. Initialise the audio workstation Machine Control Interface to accept a Video Tape Recorder of the type BVW75.  On the Machine Control Interface, press PLAY and check the following:

  • Can you control Clipbox with the tape transport controls of the audio workstation?

  • Can the audio workstation synchronise to the playback timecode from Clipbox?

NOTE:  Audio workstations use different methods to synchronise with Video Tape Recorders.

  • In a ProTools installation, the ProTools Machine Control Interface issues a play command to the VTR which is received by Interlinear instead.  Interlinear translates this into a play command for Clipbox.  Clipbox video from the playback is fed to a timecode generator.  The timecode generator reads the VITC in jam sync mode and generates matching LTC which is fed to a synchroniser.  The synchroniser converts the LTC into matching MIDI data which is fed to ProTools.  ProTools uses the MIDI data in chase synch mode to follow the video playback.

  • In a Fairlight installation, the Fairlight Machine Control Interface issues a play command to the VTR which is received by Interlinear instead.  Interlinear translates this into a play command for Clipbox.  Interlinear interrogates Clipbox for timecode data and supplies the translated timecode data back to the Fairlight through the Machine Control Interface.

Setup is now complete and the session can start.

COPYING AUDIO FROM CLIPBOX TO THE AUDIO WORKSTATION

When the Setup procedure described above is complete, Interlinear and Clipbox are ready to copy audio to the audio workstation.
Refer to the audio workstation operating procedures for transferring audio from Video Tape Recorders to the audio workstation.  The combination of Interlinear and Clipbox will behave as a Video Tape Recorder of type BVW75.
