USE OF THE SLAVE PORT

The Slave Port can perform one of two special functions.  Here we describe how to select the function to perform.

1.  Video/Key

The default function of the Slave Port is the Video/Key mode where two clips play together in sync from two Clipbox ports.  [Note that when the Media ID option is installed, the Video/Key mode is not available and Dubbing is the default mode.]
The "Video" clip that Interlinear plays from the Master Port is the clip that you select in the playlist.  The "Key" clip that Interlinear plays from the Slave Port is defined by the number of the "Video" clip + 1.  So if clip number 100 contains the video and is entered in the playlist, Interlinear will automatically load clip number 101 on the slave port.  If clip number 101 exists, a letter K will appear on the display beside the clip number 100 to confirm.
If clip 101 does not exist, Interlinear will use clip number 10 as a default and the letter K will not appear.  Clip 10 can be a clip of white frames so that video can pass through the keyer when a clip has no key.
For example, the playlist displays:

  1024K  FLAG WAVING  00:00:00:00  00:00:07:00
  196K  TITLES  12:30:46:22  00:00:45:18
    83    NEWS HEADLINES  00:00:00:00  00:00:11:23

The Master Port plays clip 1024 for seven seconds while Slave Port plays clip 1025.
Then Master Port plays clip 196 while Slave Port plays clip 197.
Then Master Port plays clip 83 while the Slave Port plays the default key clip 10.
Note that Slave clips 1025 and 197 do not appear in the playlist but are confirmed by the
K, and that key clip 84 did not exist so clip 10 was used and the K did not appear.
IMPORTANT:

  • The clip for the Master Port must have a number

  • The Master clip and the Slave clip should have the same timecode

  • The clip for the Slave Port must have "the number plus one" otherwise the panel will default to using clip number 10.

  • Clip 10 must exist, otherwise behaviour is unpredictable

2.  Dubbing

The function of the Slave Port automatically changes to record when the EDIT key is pressed.  The Dubbing function is automatically disabled when the recording stops.
See Dubbing section for details of Dubbing mode.

Additional Information about using Two Ports (A/B Switch)

Current versions of Interlinear allow two playlists to be played from two Clipbox ports at the same time.  This feature requires two Master Ports, and can also utilise two Slave Ports.  Each Master Port, Slave Port and playlist constitute one Channel, and control can be switched between the two available Channels using the A/B key.
