PROTOCOL TRANSLATION

The Protocol Translator within Interlinear allows a remote VTR controller to use Clipbox for playback and recording.  Interlinear's Remote Port uses industry standard RS422 VTR protocol.

Operation of Interlinear Remote Port

Connect Interlinear's Remote Port to the remote VTR or edit controller with a standard VTR cable.  Use Interlinear to select the clip for the remote VTR controller to play, or set the recording parameters and duration to use if the remote controller will record on Clipbox.  Press TRANSLATOR key to enable (or disable) the remote control facility.  The TRANSLATOR key lights to indicate that the Protocol Translator is enabled.  The remote controller now has access to the selected clip for playback, and can record on Clipbox if desired.  Please note that until a clip is selected, the Protocol Translation does not reply to the remote controller.

Many other commands are acknowledged (ACK) by Interlinear, but no action is taken.
Requests for data that are not supported are refused (NAK) by Interlinear.
Editing onto Clipbox is not supported at the present time due to restrictions within Clipbox.

InterCart Upgrade

If the InterCart Upgrade is installed, the Protocol Translator allows a Cart Controller or Host Automation System with Cart Driver to use four ports of Clipbox to playback as a Cart Emulator.  All Cart List commands, all Cart Transport commands and Status Returns are supported with the exception of Save List to Floppy and As Run Log data.
