DUBBING
This feature provides a method of achieving audio and video dubbing. Two Clipbox ports are required for dubbing. Both ports are controlled by Interlinear in order to copy material from the master port to the slave port of Clipbox. The master port plays the source material while the slave port records the changes applied to the source using an audio mixing desk for sound dubbing and a video switcher for external video effects.
Method of Operation
Arrange external connections for audio and video from master port to slave port of Clipbox.
Enable control of master port by Interlinear using MENU 1 and entering the master port number.
Enable control of slave port by Interlinear using MENU 2 and entering the slave port number.
Select the clip to play. If necessary, mark IN and OUT points of the section to be dubbed.
Press the EDIT key. Dubbing will start automatically.
Interlinear prerolls the master port to five seconds before the IN and starts playing. This allows the VITC timecode to be fed to an audio dubbing suite with a chase synchroniser which can lock in five seconds. Interlinear starts the slave port recording at the IN point. Recording stops automatically at the OUT point of the clip, or can be stopped manually at any time.
Interlinear automatically numbers the new recording with the first available clip number. You may change the number while dubbing is in progress.
Interlinear automatically copies the title of the playback clip onto the recorded clip and adds the word DUB to the title. You may change the title while dubbing is in progress.
When no IN point is marked, dubbing starts from the first frame of the selected clip. During the five second preroll, the first frame is output from the Clipbox master port continuously, but the VITC timecode runs from minus five seconds until the clip starts playing. Audio synchronisers in chase mode will have time to lock to the VITC before the first frame starts playing.
If dubbing is stopped manually, it can be continued from any point by marking a new IN point. After dubbing, make a playlist using matched frames from the separate dub clips so that the dub can be played out continuously.
Option for Dubbing by Remote Control
Dubbing can be triggered remotely from a VTR controller connected to Interlinear's Protocol Translator.
Before remote control can be used, the external video and audio connections should be made, the master and slave ports should be enabled, and the clip for dubbing should be selected.
Connect the RS422 connection from the remote controller to Interlinear's REMOTE socket and make sure that Interlinear's TRANSLATOR is on (press the TRANSLATOR key if it is not lit).
Interlinear will start dubbing under remote control if:-
- the controller issues a RECORD command while the EDIT PRESETS are split (split means the Video channel is off while A1 and A2 channels are on, or Video is on with A1 and A2 off)
- the controller issues an AUTO EDIT command while the EDIT PRESETS are split.
