As soon as recording starts, a clip number will be issued automatically, and the clip will be available to other users on the system.  While recording is in progress, you may change the clip number and enter a title for this clip.
Please note that this method of copying from tape to Clipbox requires that there is timecode on the tape.  Clipbox will not enter the record mode unless the exact timecode stored by MARK IN is found in the SDI input stream.

Copying from VTR to Clipbox without Timecode

Make the connections as described in previous section.
All following operations can be carried out at the Interlinear control panel:

  1. Press VTR key

  2. Use Shuttle knob to locate the end of the desired material on tape.  Note tape timer value.

  3. Use Shuttle knob to locate the start of the desired material on tape. Calculate duration.

  4. Preroll the tape manually before the start of desired material

  5. Press PLAY

  6. Press CLIPBOX key

  7. Select MENU 8 to set audio channels (1, 2, 3, 4) and compression (8) if required

  8. Select timecode (7) to use.  External Time of Day or Internal (start from zero) are available

  9. Press OUT key and set the recording duration to the desired duration plus the preroll

  10. Press RECORD key about five seconds before VTR reaches desired start point

When the recording duration is complete, Clipbox and the VTR will stop automatically and the new clip will be loaded ready for playback.  Use the Jog and Shuttle knob to find the exact start frame and press MARK IN to store this frame for use later.  Find the last desired frame and use MARK OUT.  Interlinear will play only the marked material.
Where the clip is for other users on the system, the marked in and out points can be made permanent by using the Save Marked Clip function.  Press SAVE LIST to access this function, which is described elsewhere in this manual.  Another clip will be entered into the Clipbox database, having the same title but with the next available clip number.  Notify this clip number to the other users.

Copying from Clipbox to VTR

First connect a VTR to the Interlinear VTR A port using a 9 pin RS422 remote control cable.  Connect the digital output of Clipbox that Interlinear is controlling to the digital input of the VTR.  Load a pre-striped tape into the VTR,  and select remote control mode.  Return to the Interlinear control panel.
All following operations must be carried out at the Interlinear control panel:

  1. Press CLIPBOX key and load the desired material to copy to tape.  Make a playlist if there are numerous clips to copy.  Position Clipbox on the first frame of the desired material.

  2. Press VTR key

  3. Use Jog and Shuttle knob to locate the desired recording position on the tape

  4. Find exact first frame and press MARK IN key

  5. Press EDIT key

Interlinear will automatically copy the selected playlist from Clipbox to VTR.  The VTR will preroll five seconds before the desired recording point and play in insert edit mode.  The VTR will enter the edit record mode at the marked in point and Clipbox will start playing from the current frame.  Clipbox will stop playing at the end of the playlist (in block play mode) or at the end of the clip (if not in block play mode) and the VTR will stop recording automatically.
Please note that extra still frames may be recorded on tape at either end of the desired material.  This is to be sure that the VTR edit delay does not omit desired material from the copy.
